Abstract

I am a research associate at the Institute of Geophysics and Geology at the University of Leipzig and a member of the working group "Earth System Data Science" of the "Remote Sensing Center for Earth System Research".

In my research I am engaged in the quantification of the plant photosynthesis rate by using optical remote sensing approaches. My focus lies here on sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence, a signal emitted by plants during their photosynthetic light reactions, which can now be detected with innovative high-resolution hyperspectral cameras.

After obtaining my PhD at the University of Cologne (2017) I spent 3 years in Antwerp, Belgium. In 2018 I received my Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant (ReSPEc - 795299) for research on photosynthetic energy balance using innovative remote sensing methods.

Professional career

  • 01/2017 - 06/2017
    PostDoc, University of Bonn
  • 07/2017 - 09/2020
    PostDoc, University of Antwerp
  • since 09/2020
    Research Associate, Universität Leipzig

Education

  • 04/2005 - 12/2011
    Studies in Geographie, Marburg
  • 02/2012 - 12/2016
    PhD, University of Cologne

The research questions I in particular work on are:

  • The scalability of sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence from leaf to the canopy.
  • The relationship between sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence and photosynthesis under different stress conditions (heat, drought, cold, nutrient limitations).
  • The quantification of non-photochemical quenching by optical remote sensing approaches.
