Orientation
Do you think about to study a master’s degree programme in Meteorology at our institute after you have successfully graduating with a bachelor's degree? Make an appointment with the Student Advisory Service or visit us at the Open Day to find out more about our master's degree programme.
The annual open day in January is an opportunity to take part in selected courses at our faculties and institutes.
We traditionally open our doors also to prospective students so that you can get a taste of your chosen degree programme and meet fellow students and lecturers.

On 4 May 2024, between 10am and 3pm, there will be plenty of opportunities to find out about studying in Leipzig at our Augustusplatz campus. Application for B. Sc. Meteorologie
Have you decided to study for a bachelor’s degree at our institute?
There are different options to get into the bachelor program. Detailed information is provided on the international webpages of our university.
Application for M. Sc. Meteorology
Have you decided to study for or master’s degree at our institute? To ensure that your application is successful, here we give you an overview you about the aspects and stages of the application procedure.
General qualification
for the degree course is proven by a first professionally recognised degree qualification or a qualification from a state or state-recognised university of cooperative education (German "Berufsakademie”).
Subject specific requirements
- a first professionally recognised degree qualification in natural sciences or
- an evidence, that the applicant can achieve this qualification in the regular course of study by the start of the Master's degree course and
- proof of knowledge for English language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (or equivalent). The language skills are intended to enable students to follow lectures and other courses in English and to be able to communicate spontaneously in English.
German University degree: general qualification for the degree course proven by a first professionally recognised degree qualification or a qualification from a state or state-recognised university of cooperative education (German "Berufsakademie”).

- apply online via the AlmaWeb portal
- send your application by post to our International Centre and Submit the certified copies of your application documents
- Deadline of application 15 September (for winter semester) or 15 March (for summer semester)
Foreign University degree: general qualification for the degree course proven by a first professionally recognised degree qualification obtained abroad.
Application
- apply online via the uni-assist application portal.
- Please then upload your application documents there electronically
Admission and Enrolment
- Once you have formally applied via uni-assist, your application will be forwarded to the International Centre. It will then send an email containing login details for our AlmaWeb study portal. Once the application procedure is complete, this portal is where we will make your electronic letter of admission available if your application was successful
- If your application was successful the International Centre will make your electronic letter of admission available on AlmaWeb.
- fill in the declaration of acceptance. (last page of your letter of admission).
- Return the completed declaration of acceptance as a PDF file to the email address provided within two weeks.
- After returning the declaration of acceptance, you will receive information about paying your semester fee.
- Please then pay this semester fee.
Your enrolment will not be complete until you have paid the semester fee, submitted any missing documents and enrolled in person during Welcome Week.

Beside your application via AlmaWeb or uni-assist the subject-specific admission requirements have to be evaluated by the faculty of Physics an Earth Sciences.
Please submit the following records to the dean of the faculty by email or post:
- Application of checking your admissions
- Transcript of records / first professionally recognised degree qualification
Deadline
- 01 September (for winter semester) or
- 01. March (für summer semester)
Procedure
- An examination board checks your submitted records.
- You will then issue an acceptance or rejection letter. This serves to prove the corresponding admission requirements.
- Add the acceptance letter to your application portal.
Application
- You have already studied and achieved credits in your previous studies? Your previous academic achievements can be recognised by the relevant examination board of Physics and Meteorology.
Please let the form "Anrechnungsbescheid" filled out. - You can then apply for a degree programme in the higher semester.
